Aftermath

Most of the petroleum and gas was gone. What was left was too expensive to extract and refine. Life did go on...but not as before. The world population died back to a billion or so. People scavenged and scraped together what they needed to survive. Mechanical power was replaced by human power until the population of draft animals that survived the hungry years were increased. The crumbling, rusty ruins of the industrial world will stand in mute testimony to a time when people thought they could defy the laws of the universe and the limits of nature.
