Helmut Lubbers is semi-retired. After half a working life as a salesman of precision machinery he radically changed his life in 1982. The news about dying forests left him no choice but to sell his car. Helmut has two children and four grandchildren.
He received his BC in mechanical engineering in Arnhem, Holland and subsequently a diploma in management for the printing industry. 1987 he went back to university in Basel, Switzerland. This lead to a Masters in Social Sciences - Psychology received from the University of Waikato, New Zealand and a Diploma in Ecology from Basel University. The ecoglobe project was started in Wellington, New Zealand in 1997, after a stint at a doctoral project on Environmental Motivation and 8 months Willing Workers on Organic Farms. In 1999 he organised the first nationwide debate on Genetic Engineering in Wellington, New Zealand. In 2000 he moved to Geneva, Switzerland in order to become active in an international political environment. Helmut speaks five languages more or less fluently - Dutch, English, German, French and Swiss-German. He earns a living as a part-time language teacher. His particular skills lie in analysing and presenting the overarching concept of sustainability and its multifaceted links in all areas of life. 12 DEC 2007 under development > click to empower
